Miljana Nikovic
Miljana Niković is an architect, artist, and researcher with a focus on spatial, audiovisual, and linguistic re-appropriations. In her ongoing practice-based research, video projects, and texts, she explores the perceptions of sociopolitical and urban transformations as depicted in films. Her most recent publications deal with found-footage techniques in the context of Yugonostalgia. Her experiments have been awarded and screened at various international festivals, cultural and artistic venues.
During her residency, Miljana Niković will focus on an audiovisual analysis of the spatiality of Krems, by filming specific urban structures and landscapes that contribute to the understanding of the spatial context within Lower Austria. Inspired by forms of Expanded Cinema, her project will include testimonies of the people who live in the area by adding their thoughts, shared memories, and private photos or films. The goal is to establish a connection between what we see and how what we see is perceived in the community, or translated in the collective un/conscious. Since films influence both collective and individual memories and articulate as well as manipulate the image of a city and its inhabitants, the main question remains: how do these audiovisual representations affect our cognitive consciousness?
