Fem*flixt!
Astrid Langer and Judith Lava
18.07.2026 – 30.06.2027
Art that shakes up clichés! Astrid Langer and Judith Lava’s “Fem*flixt!” brings a breath of fresh air to the Karikaturmuseum Krems. Complementing the “Dieser Haderer” anniversary exhibition, Excursus #14 offers a humorous and self-ironic take on the female perspective. Visitors are invited to explore an artistic journey that inspires, provokes, and moves.
Astrid Langer and Judith Lava’s artistic collaboration “Fem*flixt!” delivers a clear message against a “be quiet, well-behaved, and don’t make demands!” mentality. The two Carinthian artists cheekily poke fun at clichés and wield satire as a weapon against rigid societal expectations.
Satirical Art as a Feminist Statement
From the wall-sized comic-splatter performance featuring the character “Nitsch”, to the rebellious “Dachziegl”, which confronts prejudices against women in art, to paintings about the “Vogel im Kopf”, visitors can experience the full spectrum of Langer’s work. Three white horses—a feminist response to the famous three wise monkeys—interact with a centaur sculpture, pandas, and the ceramic “WOW-Ziege”. Cleaning becomes performative critique, humor a weapon. Langer “fem*flixes” her way through clichés and conventions—with attitude and a stroke of the pen.
Lili: Self-Determination in Wax
A blonde woman, alternately combative and vulnerable. Positioned between artistic persona and everyday object, Judith Lava’s wax figures embody self-determination and female empowerment. During the tour, visitors encounter a self-confident sex extremist Lili as well as an introspective Lili in a flower meadow. “Der Lili Kuss” references Gustav Klimt’s famous painting and holds a special surprise.
