Dieser Haderer
Anniversary Exhibition
18.07.2026 – 30.06.2027
Gerhard Haderer is back at the Karikaturmuseum Krems—bigger, sharper, and more uncompromising than ever! To mark Haderer’s 75th birthday, the Karikaturmuseum Krems presents a wide selection of his impressive oil paintings for the first time, alongside new cartoons and beloved classics by the master himself.
Satirical Precision and Social Insight
Gerhard Haderer is one of the most important satirical cartoonists in the German-speaking world. His works—featured in renowned media such as “stern” and “profil”—are sharp observations and pointed commentary on politics, society, and everyday “madness.” With subtle irony and biting humor, the Upper Austrian artist exposes the absurdities of our time—from online self-obsession to political hypocrisy. His uncompromising work has earned him numerous awards, including the Deutscher Karikaturenpreis (German Caricature Prize) and the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the State of Vienna.
Oil Paintings Over Two-Meters High
The anniversary exhibition at the Karikaturmuseum Krems highlights Haderer’s artistic range: in addition to new and well-known cartoons, visitors can explore a nearly complete selection of his monumental oil paintings. These artworks, some standing over 2.5 meters tall, take viewers on a satirical journey through the seasons—from a homage to Albrecht Dürer to socially critical jabs at selfie culture and traditionalism.
Scandals, Taboos, and the Church
The photorealistic works, most of which are signed “Hades,” are as entertaining as they are thought-provoking. The presentation from the satirical book “Das Leben des Jesus” reflects Haderer’s critical view of religious power structures. In addition, his long-standing commitment to resistance in art is evident in the “Schule des Ungehorsams” and the “Kaktus Cartoon Award”.
