About the Forum Frohner

My pictures are an attempt to confront a society that has long become accustomed to a system of suppression. This calls for awareness, however, and creating awareness means uncovering.

Program

A forum, a place for encounters and dialogue—this was the wish of Adolf Frohner, one of Austria‘s leading post-war modern artists. The Forum Frohner, which opened in 2007, realizes this vision. Focusing on engaging themes from Frohner's work, the forum promotes discourse between various artistic perspectives and facilitates debates on contemporary societal issues.

Through a series of changing exhibitions, Frohner‘s work is contextualized alongside national and international artists and art movements. This approach not only continually reinterprets his artistic output but also creates opportunities to explore new connections, emerging trends, and societal questions through engagement with his ideas. The themes are further examined through international expert discussions, symposia, and events across film, literature, philosophy, and music.

Adolf Frohner's work serves as an endless resource for exhibition projects. Our program at the Forum Frohner aims to integrate Frohner’s legacy in current artistic and social discourse. The focus is on in-depth analysis and the discovery of hidden connections.

History and Architecture

Adolf Frohner was clear in his desire not to have a museum dedicated to himself but rather a forum—a space for discourse. This vision was realized in 2007 with the opening of the Forum Frohner on the Kunstmeile Krems. Situated in the Minorite monastery in Krems-Stein, the forum has become a dynamic space for reflection and discussion, thanks to its distinctive atmosphere, intimate architecture, and Frohner‘s lasting commitment.
