Reading & Discussion
with Lucie LomováLucie Lomová is one of the most renowned comic artists and illustrators in the Czech Republic. She gained widespread recognition with her children's comic series featuring the two mice Anča and Pepík, which was regularly published in the Czech magazine Čtyřlístek throughout the 1990s. The stories were later collected in book form and adapted into a television series in 2017.
In 2006, Lomová published her first graphic novel for an adult audience, Anna Wants to Jump (Anna chce skočit), which was initially released by the French publishing house Éditions de l’An 2. This was followed by several acclaimed works, including Golden Bohemian Tales (2008), a graphic adaptation of five fairy tales by writer Karel Jaromír Erben. In her graphic novel Die Wilden (Divoš, 2011), Lomová tells the story of a young Indigenous person who was brought to Prague in 1908 by the ethnographer Alberto Vojtěch Frič. The German edition, translated by Katharina Hinderer, was published by Bahoe Books in 2020.
The fall literary event will kick off with a book presentation by Lucie Lomová at the Czech Center in Vienna. As part of AIR – Artist in Residence Lower Austria, she will present her graphic novel Die Wilden.
