Sasha Kurmaz
My artistic practice is diverse and includes a large number of mediums and approaches, including photography, installation, video, artist’s book production, various forms of collaborative and participatory practices, performative interaction, and intervention in public space. The main focus of my work is social and political issues and global challenges that the Ukrainian society has faced in recent years. In particular, I study the city, its development and transformation, the relationship between citizens and authorities, the impact of war and its consequences on life and nature, and different forms of participation and engagement with social groups or communities in joint work.
During my stay in Krems, I plan to focus on developing a new body of work dedicated to the issue of the impact of information on youth during wartime. In particular, I would like to explore the visual and rhetorical strategies used by the state to influence the minds of adolescents and how this influence is used to achieve military goals. In addition, I am also interested in how fabricated narratives and disinformation in the media manipulate perceptions and influence human psyche and behavior, and what consequences this can lead to in a situation of permanent turbulence caused by a long war, particularly those of children and teenagers.
