BIO

An-other Trash Culture
As artist in residence in fall and winter 2024, the Indian designer and publicist Sarvesh Singh will be working with materials that are mainly regarded as waste. Using deconstruction, computer design and magical realism, he aims to place waste and residues in a different context and give them a new meaning. Sarvesh Singh will therefore research and deform materials and document them in installations. He will make an entire database - digital and physical - accessible to the public in order to reflect on the universal connection between value and sustainability and to promote “a different waste culture”.

Biography Statement:

As an architect with a diverse international background, his work is primarily influenced by the socio- cultural contexts in which it is generated. His experiences with projects across India, Spain, South Africa, and the States have given him a uniquely varied perspective on the built environment.
A sustained interest in bridging laterally the gaps between disciplines and media, sees him experiment across the domains of sculpture, installations, film, storytelling and more. Often collaborating with indigenous craft, an emerging undercurrent to his practice is how certain discourses and modes of placemaking enhance subliminally the lives of its communities and ecologies.
