Rūta Junevičiūtė

Rūta Junevičiūtė is an artist and choreographer from Vilnius, based in Amsterdam.  She works mostly with performance, text, drawing, video and installation mediums. 

For the past seven years she has been researching the body as a sentient archive, intergenerational trauma and holistic processes of healing. Her work explores embodied knowledge, interconnectedness, emotions, the obscure, sensual and relational. 

Rūta’s work has been presented at Veem House of Performance, Frascati Theatre, de Brakke Grond Theatre in Amsterdam, Vilnius Performance Art Biennial, Rupert and the Lithuanian National Gallery of Art in Vilnius, June gallery in Berlin, Complot in Brussels, Bora Bora Aarhus a.o.

In 2023 she published a book on the aesthetics of conspiracy, affects of censorship and the phenomena of the Aesopian language. Together with choreographer Liza Baliasnaja she is co-facilitating an ongoing workshop series/ research ‘Sore Spots’, addressing how unresolved history manifests in the body, merging somatic and de-colonial approaches with a focus to the Baltic region and the post-soviet space of influence.

With a background in art theory, fine arts and choreography, she holds degrees from Vilnius Academy of Arts and School for New Dance Development, Amsterdam.
