BIO

Maria Luisa Witte, originally from Buenos Aires, completed her studies in illustration and communication design at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, where she continues to live and work. Her thesis, "Die Augen einwärts," was awarded Best of the Year by the Lichtwark Society in 2005. Since 2001, she has exhibited in various group and solo shows both domestically and internationally, while also working as a freelance illustrator for newspapers and publishers. As a founding member of the magazine SPRING, she has been part of an internationally recognized project since 2004, publishing annually on various themes.

Her style oscillates between free- and narrative drawing. In recent years, the documentary and autobiographical aspects have gained increasing importance for her, evolving into her central artistic pursuit.

During her residency in Krems, she will approach the city like a writer-in-residence, capturing it with an individual perspective. From collected material and subjective snapshots she will condence  a series of images to create an artistic portrait of the city. The project's results will be exhibited in Vienna on June 23, 2024, and will be on display until August 18, 2024, at Stuwerstraße 24 (Arbeit in Auslage).
