The intention of Birgit Knoechl's work is to explore the line and its movement in space. The act of putting the line on paper is strongly connected to following an intuitive movement. It is a process of merging the drawn line with her physical movement information. She transfers the knowledge of her body onto paper by means of a line. She perceives this process as a way of making the here and now tangible. In this way, she transforms movement into a visible existence with the line.

If Birgit Knoechl assumes that the line exists independently of the medium for capturing reality and is considered the archetype of all tools, then it could be said that the line is the origin of signs, code, drawing, and the written word—and that these in turn give rise to narrative and reportage. The line connects everything with everything else—it wanders and is concrete at the same time, seeking its own path.
