Abraham Gragera
Abraham Gragera was born in Madrid in 1973 and grew up in Extremadura, in southwestern Spain, the region his family originates from. He studied psychology, philology, and fine arts in Salamanca, followed by humanities at the University of Córdoba. He later founded and directed the poetry magazine Años Diez.
Gragera has published several poetry collections, most notably O Futuro, which received the Premio de la Crítica de Madrid in 2017 and was named “Book of the Year” by the Spanish Booksellers Association.
In addition to his literary work, he has worked as an editor for the Spanish publishing house Pre-Textos and as a director and playwright with the contemporary theatre and dance company La Phármaco. He is also an accomplished translator of poetry and prose, including works by Emily Dickinson, Louise Glück, W. S. Merwin, S. J. Lec, Pascal Quignard, and Anna Swir.
In 2022, a German-language anthology of his poetry titled Die weniger einsame Zeit was published by Carl Hanser Verlag in the prestigious Edition Lyrik Kabinett, edited by Piero Salabè. In 2023, Gragera was nominated for the internationally renowned Zbigniew Herbert International Poetry Prize.
