Reading & Discussion
with Lucie LomováLucie Lomová is one of the Czech Republic’s most renowned comic artists and illustrators. She gained widespread recognition through the children's comic series about the two mice, Anča and Pepík, which was regularly published in the Czech magazine Čtyřlístek throughout the 1990s. The stories were later released in book form and adapted into a television series in 2017.
With Anna Wants to Jump (Anna chce skočit, 2006), Lomová published her first comic work aimed at an adult audience. The book was initially released by the French publishing house Éditions de l'An 2. This was followed by several other significant works, including Golden Bohemian Fairy Tales (2008), a graphic reinterpretation of five fairy tales by the writer Karel Jaromír Erben. In the graphic novel Divoš (Die Wilden, 2011), she tells the story of a young Indigenous man who was brought to Prague in 1908 by the ethnographer Alberto Vojtěch Frič. The German-language edition was published in 2020 by Bahoe Books, translated by Katharina Hinderer.
The autumn literary events programme will open with a book presentation by Lucie Lomová at the Czech Centre Vienna. As part of AIR – Artist in Residence Lower Austria, she will present her graphic novel Die Wilden.
