Laura Itandehui / Caoimhe & Séamus Uí Fhlatharta
Concert
The opening evening at Glatt&Verkehrt promises vocal and instrumental gems from two continents.
Laura Itandehui will be performing her own songs from her current CD as well as one or two famous set pieces from Latin American song culture. Thanks to the Artist in Residence program, the musician and cantautora will be a guest in Krems for several weeks. “Itandehui” means “flower from heaven” in an indigenous language of the Mixteca region in Oaxaca. Their music incorporates genres from different parts of Mexico, and the lyrics are simple and touching:
imagine
a world for us
in which silence
offers protection
The Uí Fhlatharta siblings come from An Àird Mhóir in the Gaeltacht region of Connemara, County Galway, on the west coast of Ireland. The area is rich in living musical traditions, including the siblings growing up with the peculiar, ornate sean-nós song. They combine their knowledge of the region's heritage with youthful recklessness and the best musical craftsmanship, which has led to numerous awards from an early age and the “Best Emerging Artists” award at the Radio RTÈ 2024 Folk Awards. Pure folk music is transformed into timeless songs in their hands.
