#MeineWachau
Presentation on the photo competition
25.09.2021 – 26.10.2021
Barren vines in a winter landscape, apricot trees in full bloom, the mighty Danube surrounded by gentle vineyards, mystical cloudscapes over the UNESCO-protected cultural landscape, nighttime views of the old town, a lizard in a castle ruin: the view of the Wachau in #MeineWachau is diverse, colorful, and contrasting.
#MyWachau – A photo competition for the UNESCO World Heritage Region
The exhibition presents the best pictures from the “My Wachau” photo competition, which was held in 2020 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Wachau region being designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 240 participants captured with their cameras what they particularly like about the Wachau region and what makes it special to them. A high-caliber jury selected the winners from over 500 high-quality photos.
The submissions ranged from analog black-and-white images to digital panoramic photos, from macro shots to dynamic images with movement, from “classic” views of the Dürnstein ruins to modern still lifes. The Danube plays an essential role in many of the motifs. Take a stroll through the presentation to discover familiar and unfamiliar places and perspectives.
#MeineWachau is in dialogue with the exhibition “Wachau. The Discovery of a World Heritage Site.” With almost 500 works from the 18th to the mid-20th century – including icons of Wachau painting – the major exhibition at the Lower Austrian State Gallery takes an art-historical look at the UNESCO World Heritage Site until March 2022.
Twelve award-winning images have also been used to create a photo calendar for 2022.
