Renate Bertlmann
Here rests my tenderness
26.05.–29.09.2019
For more than 50 years, Renate Bertlmann's work has reflected the cornerstones of our cultural life, with a wealth of perspectives, art forms, themes, and content encompassing the entirety of existence. It goes without saying that this involves far-reaching criticism. The artist sees her position as that of a lover. “Amo ergo sum” (I love, therefore I am) is the starting point and outline of her artistic work, whereby love, in the artist's sense, is presented as a holistic sensory experience. The themes range from gender roles to religion and the rituals that frame human death. The artist often slips into a wide variety of roles and undergoes transformations. The exhibition is her first solo museum exhibition, taking place at the same time as her solo show at the Venice Biennale. The project was curated by Renate Bertlmann herself and, in addition to new works, features key pieces from her oeuvre since the 1970s.
