Veronika Suschnig works with different, mostly relief-like surfaces to create paintings, which are technically speaking multi-layered objects. In her delicate visual language, she combines a variety of textures and layers to create installations that are often room-filling. Her pieces emerge from complex work processes, influenced both by analog and digital techniques. The textures of her works blur image planes such as foreground and background and create creative conflicts that manifest themselves in strong contrasts. On a formal level, this is obvious in the “Pain Poems“ and “Pain Patterns“, where notes were pasted into rose thorns. “Drugtales“ consists of text fragments mounted on empty pill cases. Suschnig is interested in traces of wounds, injuries, but also processes of healing, which she also relates metaphorically to social developments.
