The “NO” Horn and the School of Disobedience
From the cartoons and the comic book MOFF by artist Gerhard Haderer—whose “School of Disobedience” led all the way to the *NEINhorn*!—caricature and satire succeed in making social contexts accessible to a broad audience in a humorous and concise way. At the museum, students become familiar with Gerhard Haderer’s satirical visual language as well as the humorous world of the NEINhorn, and they practice expressing their own views through words and images.
The courage to say no—and what happens next? To develop ourselves and the world, dissent is not only permitted but necessary. Through the artworks on display, students explore dissent, rules, and self-determination and reflect: When does “saying no” make sense? Does raising our voices create awareness of current, relevant issues and foster public discourse?
In the creative segment, the students become comic stars themselves: Like the cheeky NEINhorn and the caricaturist Gerhard Haderer, they develop their own characters—courageous, witty, and strong in saying “no.” With pen and paper, they transform their ideas into cool illustrations and cheeky sayings, discovering just how much fun and power lie in their own courage to say no.
Recommended for ages 10–14.
