Artistic Sculptures

Sculptural

What are the differences between sculpture, plastic art, and assemblage, and how do they create their spatial impact? Using a variety of materials, the students explore the possibilities of sculptural design.

Using clay, plaster, and wire, children and teenagers model figures and explore the texture and variety of forms these materials offer through adding, smoothing, and compacting. They experiment with the interplay between figuration and abstraction and discover the possibilities of process-oriented work with an open-ended outcome.

Imagination, planning, and the art of subtraction are essential in the creation of sculptures. Using various tools, the students create imaginative figures step by step from foam blocks: What remains, what is removed, and how does the form develop during the creative process? The students learn to make decisions, reflect on intermediate steps, and consciously guide the creative process.

In assemblage, everyday objects and found items are combined to create new spatial relationships. Through layering, gluing, stacking, inserting, and connecting, multi-part structures emerge in which materials, functions, and meanings are redefined. Experimental thinking and a reflective approach to consumer and everyday culture are encouraged.
