Spotlight Tour. On the road with Schiele & Co.

Experience a compact and inspiring insight into Lower Austrian art history with the highlights of the provincial collections. Beginning with Viennese Modernism, discover the works of the important Expressionists Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. The tour continues with the dynamic, late Baroque paintings of Schmidt from Krems, which inspire with their energy and depth of detail. 

A particular highlight is the monumental “Panorama of the Danube Valley with the Ruins of Dürnstein Castle” (1906) by Anton Hlavaček—an impressive testament to the scenic beauty of the region. Equally fascinating are the detailed, naturalistic works by Waldmüller, Neder, and Gauermann, which tell stories that go beyond the visible. Finally, you will encounter Emil Jakob Schindler and Marie Egner, two outstanding representatives of Austrian mood impressionism.
