MUSEUM ARCHITECTURE x 3

Unique museum buildings by well-known architects are united on the Kunstmeile Krems: the State Gallery of Lower Austria (marte.marte), the Kunsthalle Krems (Adolf Krischanitz) and the Caricature Museum Krems (Gustav Peichl). This tour format focuses entirely on architecture. The interactive and dialog-oriented tour for teenagers aims to encourage their interest in architecture and design and show how closely art and architecture are intertwined.

So what does the term architecture mean? What is meant by floor plan and front elevation? How do form and function interact? What is the purpose of statics? And what role do people play in architecture? Using the museum buildings on the square, plans and discussions the students approach various questions related to architecture.

The museums are not only viewed from the outside. After examining the facades, they also visit the interior of the State Gallery of Lower Austria. The museum, which opened in 2019 impresses with its striking, cubic shape and the innovative use of concrete and glass. How was this museum designed inside? What is the effect of its sloping walls? The students make their own personal experiences of space in the contemporary museum building.
