Bianca Phos
Bianca Phos works interdisciplinarily and across media, with a focus on sculpture and drawing. In her practice, she explores sociosomatic relations and mutual dependencies between humans, material forms, machines, and other organic bodies. By challenging traditional notions of subjectivity, she approaches bodies as relational, interdependent, and co-evolving systems.
During her two-month residency at the Nida Art Colony, Phos continued her work on drawings and drypoint etchings. Abstracted bodily formations composed of fragments explore questions of bodily identity and its interactions with society, environment, and technology. Situated between struggle and care, they appear as porous, permeable structures. A larger selection of these works formed the installation ‘On bodies, burrs and feathery edges’ at the Nida Art Colony.
Inspired by Nida’s unusual landscape and the immediate presence of sand, Phos investigated sand and silicates, considering their material properties, technological functions, and global entanglements. This inquiry informed new sculptural works, including the “Capsule Stations” series. Sand emerged as a geological material, an industrial resource, and a foundation of numerous technological processes.
