The right museum for every group
The top address for Austrian art in Lower Austria
An absolute must for group tours to the Wachau is the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich (Lower Austrian State Gallery). This spectacular museum offers fascinating exhibitions and impressive installations on an area of 3,000 m². Marvel at paintings by world famous Austrian artists such as Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. The beautiful landscape of the Wachau has been captured by many artists in impressive paintings which are presented in the museum. A rooftop terrace, meanwhile, offers a breathtaking view of the Donau and Göttweig Abbey.
Austria’s unique (and only!) museum for caricature and critical drawing
A group visit to the Krems Caricature Museum, which is dedicated to humour, will guarantee a smile to the face of visitors. The collection includes illustrations by popular Austrian caricaturist Manfred Deix which are on permanent display in the Deix Archive. Changing exhibitions present a wide range of works spanning political caricature and cartoons as well as mangas and international comics.
The top address for international art in Lower Austria
A former 19th century tobacco factory in Krems has been converted into a modern exhibition centre. The Kunsthalle Krems (Krems Art Museum), one of Austria’s most famous international art museums, presents shooting stars of the international art scene as well as established artists.
The insider tip for contemporary art
The Minoritenplatz in picturesque Krems- Stein marks the western end of the Kunstmeile Krems. The Forum Frohner in a former Minorite monastery is dedicated to the Austrian painter Adolf Frohner. It houses an extensive collection of his works and presents regularly changing contemporary art exhibitions.
