Adolf Frohner is widely known as an expressive painter and sculptor. It is lesser known that drawings make up a large, independent body of work within his oeuvre. Drawing not only allowed Frohner to find ideas but served as a tool of permanent self-reflection and even self-recognition.

Dialogue of the arts

The exhibition features drawings from the 1950s that are on view for the first time alongside key works from the 1960s and sketches from Frohner’s most productive creative period, the 1980s and 1990s, exploring themes that mark his oeuvre and intersections with painting and sculptural art. Installed chronologically, the show outlines Frohner’s creative process and the significance that the dialogue of artistic ways of expression had in it.

To mark its 15th anniversary, Forum Frohner will present the third volume of the catalogue raisonné dedicated to Frohner's drawing to accompany the exhibition.
