Satirical masterpieces from the Grill Collection

Humour and comedic art have been the driving force behind Meisi and Helmut Grill's collection of satirical drawings for more than 40 years. The curiosity shop "Etcetera" saw important artists such as Loriot and Janosch come and go from the shop, perusing items from artistic porcelain to self-published books. The couple caused a sensation with their work “Ich bin gegen alles!” (“I am against everything!”). Amongst their other famous and notorious pieces were their Bavaria inventions “1qm Freistaat Bayern” (“1 Square Meter Free State Bavaria”) or the “Orden für nix und wieder nix” (the “Order for doing everything in vain”). Their gallery of illustrators has been a home to satire and the greats of that scene, with works exhibited there by Gerhard Haderer, Rudi Hurzlmeier and Tomi Ungerer.

Spot on! exhibits all of these, as well as work by Paul Flora and Loriot and a significant selection of works from the Munich Grill Collection. Viewers will leave with a profound insight into the couple's passion for collecting.

With an exclusive range of satirical treasures from the state of Lower Austria’s collections, including pieces by Tomi Ungerer, Hans Reiser, Borislav Sajtinac and Jean-Jacques Sempé, visitors can look forward to an extraordinary dialogue between the two collections.
